Seniors 4 Seniors
Requirements: You must live In Northampton County. You must drive or have family within ten minutes of your home that can drive you and the cat to one of our vets if needed.
What is it?
Long term foster program sponsored by FURR aimed to increase quality of life for both human and feline seniors!
Who qualifies?
Senior Citizens on a fixed income who are interested in a companion cat but are not able to commit financially to medical care. Previous cat experience preferred. Individuals with no current pets in the home preferred.
How does it work?
FURR will place a senior cat with a senior citizen as a long-term foster. FURR will maintain medical care for the cat. The cat will not be listed as up for adoption and can remain with the person as long as they want.
What is required of the senior applicant?
The foster will need to fill out our seniors 4 seniors foster application. The foster will be responsible for providing daily care including food, water, a clean litter box and lots of love.
Will the foster need to buy food and Litter?
We can provide litter donations (foster or family would have to pickup). We prefer the cat be on a consistent food diet (wet and dry) and since our food donations vary week to week, the foster should purchase the food. Wet and dry food for one cat would be about $50 per month.
Does the applicant need to drive?
It is is preferred the applicant can drive. If the applicant cannot drive the applicant needs to have family within a ten minute drive. The senior cats will have checkups and/or may need to see a vet from time to time or have an emergency situation, and you will need transporation (vet visits are with FURR approved veterinarians located in Bath, Northampton, Allentown and Phillipsburg NJ).
Can the applicant pick which cat they want?
We will work with the foster to find a good fit but unlike adoption, fostering is “need-based” so FURR will determine what senior cats should be placed first. Considerations would be cats that have been with FURR the longest, cats that don’t like other cats (thus harder to place), cats that may have medical conditions making them harder to place (such as FIV), and cat's age.
